FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - iLevel by Weyerhaeuser and Cadsoft Corporation are working together to deliver an integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM) solution to the residential construction industry. The latest release of Cadsoft Envisioneer software includes iLevel's structural frame products, allowing residential designers to have accurate iLevel product and dimensional information at the beginning of the design process.
"Incorporating iLevel products into Envisioneer is a great first step to help architects and designers become more efficient. Rather than manually entering the dimensions of each product from a catalog, an Envisioneer user inserts the products they want directly into their 3D model," says Tim Debelius, Software Marketing Manager for iLevel.
The two companies intend to establish interoperability between their leading residential software technologies: iLevel's Javelin design software and Cadsoft Envisioneer. The home designer or architect will start working in Envisioneer then pass an electronic model of the home to Javelin software. Javelin software is used by leading lumberyards across North America that stock iLevel products. This streamlined approach to information flow will reduce redraw and associated errors as the electronic model moves from early design phase to contract documents, estimating, structural frame analysis, and shipping products to the site.
"Cadsoft is very pleased and committed to bringing the housing industry practical 3D building information technology to assist builders, manufacturers and suppliers in building better homes at lower costs from concept to construction" says Frank Baldesarra, President of Cadsoft Corporation.
"Many builders and lumber dealers are looking at the current economic downturn as an opportunity to become more efficient," adds Debelius. "Helping designers, builders, and suppliers quickly and accurately share information is a great way to reduce costs. Once a builder has walked through a virtual 3D jobsite, they understand the tradeoffs between performance and economics, and can avoid site problems before they drive the first nail."
The iLevel dealer network is rapidly adopting Javelin software, increasing the availability of the service. Users can apply the loads specified by the building designer and distribute gravity loads from the ridge to the foundation. Javelin users then verify that the members selected for the structural system are appropriate for each application. Once a home is analyzed in Javelin, the software can quickly provide member analysis reports, detailed material lists, and even connect to an automated fabrication system as part of iLevel's NextPhase Site Solutions process.
Commenting further, Debelius says, "Our Connections dealers will be instrumental in this new process to improve the quality of home construction while helping reduce the upfront time and cost before construction begins."
